Heterologous Expression of Xylanase Enzymes in Lipogenic Yeast Yarrowia lipolytica
To develop a direct microbial sugar conversion platform for the production of lipids, drop-in fuels and chemicals from cellulosic biomass substrate, we chose Yarrowia lipolytica as a viable demonstration strain. Y. lipolytica is known to accumulate lipids intracellularly and is capable of metabolizing sugars to produce lipids; however, it lacks the lignocellulose-degrading enzymes needed to bre...
متن کاملRecent advances in bioengineering of the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica
The oleaginous yeast, Yarrowia lipolytica, is becoming increasing popular for metabolic engineering applications. Advances in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering have allowed microorganisms such as Y. lipolytica to be tailored for specific chemical production. Significant progress has been made to understand the genetics of Y. lipolytica and towards developing novel genetic engineering ...
متن کاملIntegrating Cellular and Bioprocess Engineering in the Non-Conventional Yeast Yarrowia lipolytica for Biodiesel Production: A Review
As one of the major biofuels to replace fossil fuel, biodiesel has now attracted more and more attention due to its advantages in higher energy density and overall less greenhouse gas generation. Biodiesel (fatty acid alkyl esters) is produced by chemically or enzymatically catalyzed transesterification of lipids from microbial cells, microalgae, oil crops, or animal fats. Currently, plant oils...
متن کاملMetabolic engineering of oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica for limonene overproduction
BACKGROUND Limonene, a monocyclic monoterpene, is known for its using as an important precursor of many flavoring, pharmaceutical, and biodiesel products. Currently, d-limonene has been produced via fractionation from essential oils or as a byproduct of orange juice production, however, considering the increasing need for limonene and a certain amount of pesticides may exist in the limonene obt...
متن کاملProteomic Analysis of 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene Degrading Yeast Yarrowia lipolytica
2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) is a common component of many explosives. The overproduction and extensive usage of TNT significantly contaminates the environment. TNT accumulates in soils and aquatic ecosystems and can primarily be destroyed by microorganisms. Current work is devoted to investigation of Yarrowia lipolytica proteins responsible for TNT transformation through the pathway leading to ...
